Pacific Ahead : The drive from Vegas to LA

This was the big drive.
At the end of this one, we would be able to say that we drove across a country and a continent. Of course, we were still planning to drive back. So this was a half-way point. But nonetheless, a sense of impending achievement hung over us all.
We got a late start, after the previous late night, all the laundry and email that staying with family can induce.
But it was a great day for driving. Clear, not very sunny but sunshine in patches. The road stretched forever across the valley floor (after valley floor after valley floor) and there was even a rainbow in the sky.
Nevada ended just as it had started, with a casino. And California with a severe speeding warning.
Finally, we were sure that we are in LA.

Arms headed out on a train to one war or the other.

A BNSF track, now only skirting but not stopping at the Barstow Station.

A station, ironically, converted to a McDonald.

Rural California, the kind we had not met before.

The rainbow, with a car at the end of it.

The yucca tree, a fixture on the roadside.

The last piece of Nevada, a monorail - a la the Strip, connecting the two or more casinos that mark the state line.

The last casino.

Leaving Las Vegas. Opening the gate out of the the gated community.
