i definitely think we are moving too fast - we get some time to ponder on towns and topography as we go along, but we realize that we are just catching glimpses of places and leaving with promises to come back and explore some more. we also feel an urgency to record our observations, as we cannot really be sure if we will remember the varied details at the end of our trip.
from the kids perspective, these images are like watching TV. have you noticed how children can watch the same shows over and over again? it feels like they did not get it the first time. here too, they seem to remember experiences like the hot tub in Flagstaff or the Rattlesnake Museum in old town Albuquerque much more than the mesas, the red rocks and the expansive plains, all of which they notice only once we begin to talk about them.
