Long overdue picture post 6: Albuquerque

New Mexico, in many ways, is that part of the US, where native residents - who have been obliterated in everything but place names like Manhattan - continue to have a presence. They are a part of the fabric of the place. You see them, hear them, see the results of the handiwork and so on. Of course, all of this still happens under a great deal of mono-cultural, homogenizing pressures, but nonetheless pre-Columbian influences continue to survive (and hopefully thrive).

Beautiful old cinema theater on Central Avenue, the part of historic Route 66 that runs through the middle of downtown Albuquerque.
Box office at the same theater.

Lots of For Rent signs, esp in retail establishments. This has been a common motif of our entire journey. Not sure if the market has already factored this in or if this is a portend.

The native symbol for the sun, a very popular image all over New Mexico. With the pinnacle of the church on the town square peeking from behind.

Adobe construction.

The amazing southwestern sky, in the morning.
A new contemporary art museum.
Gate detail from the same complex.
Interesting name for a law firm. Kind of in keeping with the wild west ethos.

The customary human-interest photo. Ayon.
